Previous Events in 2002:
- March 10 JK performs The Mouthpiece of the Gods at the Scranton Cultural
Centre, Pennsylvania, USA, as part of a 3 day residence at Maryland University,
in which he will be presenting a series of lectures with John Creed, silversmith
and maker of the reconstructed carnyx.
- March 14 3pm - solo recital at the Eastern Trombone Workshop, Bruckner Hall,
Fort Meyer, Virginia, USA.
- March 22-24 Residency at the first National Trombone Workshop, Valencia,
Spain. John Kenny will give two solo recitals and masterclasses and workshops on
contemporary techniques.
- March 27 National Concert Hall of Ireland, Dublin - John Kenny gives the
world premier of "they couldn't laugh/smile" by Jennifer Walshe, for trombone and
computer generated sound. Also John Cage's "4.33" and John Maxwell Geddes "Leo,
Dreaming" for trombone and tape. Concert at 7.30pm, with a pre-concert discussion
at 5.15pm.
- April 6 National Museum of Prehistory, Nemours, France. John Kenny performs
The Mouthpiece of The Gods and spends the day lecturing and workshopping on the
carnyx.
- May 14 2pm Madras College, St Andrews, Scotland. John Kenny performs The
Mouthpiece of The Gods. The event is hosted by musician in residence, Scottish Luter Rob MacKillop. Kenny and MacKillop will perform lute songs for sackbut and
Scottish lute, at original pitch, as part of this program.
- June 16 Newhaven Festival of Arts and Ideas, Newhaven, USA. Carnyx and Co
present John Purser's "Throat" for carnyx, soprano and percussion, Judith Wier's
"King Harald's Saga" for solo soprano, Javier Alvarez's "Ki Bone Gaku" for
trombone and marimba, John Taverner's "Recitation, Last Prayer and Exultation"
for soprano and hand bells, and the world premier of a new work for soprano,
trombone and percussion by John Kenny. Carnyx and Co are: Sarah Leonard
(soprano), John Kenny (trombones and carnyx) and Joby Burgess (percussion).
- June 24 City of London Festival - John Kenny with the Vanbrugh String Quartet
and John Whiting on ambisonic sound projection performing "Forest ~ River ~
Ocean" by Nigel Osborne - 6pm, St Lawrence Jewry.
