- January 12 New York Duo project with David Taylor.
- February 6 Queen's Hall, Edinburgh Debut Recital of the newly formed ECAT
Ensemble.
- February 12 Strasbourg, France Free Jazz Quartet, with Etienne Rolin
(saxophones), John Kenny (trombone), Kent Carter (bass), Francois Rosse
(piano).
- March 17 Havana, Cuba NOMAD, with Bassam Abdul Salam, percussion.
- April 1-7 Athens, Megaron Musikis Moby Dick, a music theatre adaptation of
Melville's classic with script by Paul Stebbings and music by John Kenny and Paul
Flush, presented by TNT Music Theatre Co with the American Drama Group, Europe
May Hellenic Centre, London A week long workshop and recital project, focussing
on new music for trombone, piano and electronics, featuring music by Takis
Velianitis (Greece), Dimitri Nicolau (Greece), Ian Wilcock (UK) and Etienne Rolin
(France). With John Kenny (trombone), Joanna Haratsaris (piano), John Whiting
(sound design).
- June 28 The Valve, Denmark St, London. John Kenny performs the World Premier
of his own Sonata for Unaccompanied Bass Trombone, in a studio performance and
workshop, which will also include performance and discussion of his earlier
sonatas, for alto and tenor trombones. This evening also marks the launch of his
new CD on the BML label, AMATERASU.
- July 4 - 8 International Trombone Festival at Utrecht, Holland. John Kenny is
a faculty member, and will perform at the events listed below. For further

- July 5 11.15am Lecture recital "The Mouthpiece of The Gods", presenting the
carnyx, Irish bronze age horns, alphorn, and didgeridoo - a discussion of the
development of the lip reed family.
- July 6 "The Best of British" including Kenny’s sonatas for
unaccompanied tenor, alto & bass trombones.
- July 7 2.30pm Solo recital, including Etienne Rolin’s "Quick
Sands" for solo trombone, and "Caccia" for tenor and bass trombone,
performed with David Taylor. 3 .30pm Lecture recital "The Trombone In
Theatre", with guests Abbie Conant and David Taylor.
- August 1 St. Michael's Kirk, Linlithgow, Scotland 7.30pm Linlithgow Early
Music Festival - His Ain Draucht Trumpets perform music for cornets, sackbuts,
and organ from the 16th and 17th century courts of Europe, with a particular
emphasis on the Stuart court of Scotland and the Danish Royal Chapel.
- August 29 National Museum of Scotland 7.30pm Carnyx Gala Concert at the
National Museum of Scotland.
- September 6 - 10 "Creating Sparks" Festival, at the Natural History Museum,
London. John Kenny will both perform and give a series of workshops in the
magnificent spaces of the NHM, featuring the carnyx and instruments inspired by

- September 12 Vale of Glamorgan Festival. 7.30pm John Kenny is joined
by soprano Sarah Leonard and percussionist Richard Benjafield to perform
"Throat" by John Purser. The program also includes "The Company of
Heaven" by James MacMillan for carnyx solo, with organ and children’s
choir, and wind ensemble.
- September 7 Queen's Hall, Edinburgh 7.30pm Benefit workshop and recital for
the composer Paul Keenan, who is suffering from the bone cancer Multiple Myeloma.
Keenan is one the UK's most exciting younger generation composers - in the past
five years, whilst studying for a PhD in composition at Edinburgh University, he
has produced a stream of deeply complex, beautiful, and highly individual
electro-acoustic compositions. If Keenan's life is to be cut tragically short,
his friends and colleagues are determined that he should hear as many of his
works performed as possible, and that these should be brought to the attention of
the wider musical public.
- October 30 - November 19 John Kenny directs a residency at Duff House in
Banff, Northeast Scotland, working with musicians, dancers, puppeteers and filmakers from the UK, France, Germany and Canada to create a music theatre
installation, "The Secret House Revealed". Public observation daily, with

- October 7 Duff House, Banff 7.30pm John Kenny solo lecture recital "The
Mouthpiece of The Gods".
- October 16 Inverness Cathedral/Balnain House, Inverness 7.30pm A recital of
music displaying reconstructed instruments of the Bronze and Iron Ages, from
Scotland, Ireland, and further afield.
- November 1 Duke's Hall, Royal Academy of Music, London 7.30pm Duo Recital:
John Kenny (trombone) with George Nicholson (piano).
- November 21 Birmingham Conservatoire All Day John Kenny with David Taylor
(bass trombone, New York) perform a program of duos and solos, including the
world premier of John Kenny's Sonata for Unaccompanied Bass Trombone.
- November 22 Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London 1pm Masterclass and
recital: David Taylor and John Kenny.
- November 23 Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester Masterclass and
recital: David Taylor and John Kenny.
- November 24 Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow 7.30pm Duo
Recital: John Kenny & David Taylor.
- November 25 Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow 1pm Masterclass: David Taylor & John Kenny.
- December 6-9 Arhus Conservatoire, Denmark John Kenny in residence to give a
series of workshops on contemporary techniques and interpretation, leading to a
recital on December National Tour with the Kathryn Tickell Band,
featuring carnyx, trombone, Northumbrian Bagpipes, ‘cello, harp, and
concertina!
