Secret House
Secret House should be recognised as a visual art work based upon musical structures. It is non-narrative, not a documentary of the original performances, nor is it a "music video". Any coordination between the physical movements of instrumentalists and the music have been deliberately avoided or distorted.
The intention is to create disjuncture, or feeling of time-slip, since the entire piece is a reaction to four separate spaces which were once houses, but which have either decayed or had their function utterly altered. These are hints at many possible, non-specific stories - but all are related to the area near Glenfiddich with the exception of the ruined croft in Donegal, Ireland, which was once John Kenny's own family home. The Deskford Carnyx, a Pictish war horn made 2000 years ago near the shore of the Moray Firth, travels through time with a teller of tales, observing these stories of the secret house
